Exploration AspX

Currently my AspX has a jump range close to 50ly. Like everyone I am greedy for more. Currently I have a class 5D shields and class 3 AFMU. I have been thinking of changing to class 5A AFMU. Is it practical to fly with 3D shields or is that being too greedy?

you could get away with 3d. I keep class 3 shields on my AspX. You could even go crazy and lose some weight and engineer some 3c bi-weaves with low power. That would be fine.

or you could simply get rid of em altogether :)
For long rage, shields are completely useless unless your landing skills are Delta Airlines standards.

I use 3D shields, they work fine as insurance against the odd hard landing or belly scrape, but they won't save you from lithobraking.

In fact, here's mine in action on a 6.58 g landing in the fashion I'd normally expect they'd be used, i.e. when you do everything right on a high g approach, but hit the downthrust a little too high up.

which is why on high g landings I instead of thrusting down.
engage fa-off and thrust up manually.
(I have fa-off on a hold button not toggle which helps for these cases)

still dodgy as all hell though.

3D is fine, been to the core and back with 3Ds and have just arrived from the bubble in Colonia. When out in the black you only need them for landing (accidents do happen) and 3D are fine as long as you are sensible.
