Are two ED accounts easy to set up and maintain on one computer?

In a word.... yes.

You need to have a second e-mail address. Google gives them out all day long.

Once you purchase E-D, you can setup your second account one of two ways....

1) You can download a complete second copy of the game. That way you can have two launcher shortcuts on your desktop, (named accordingly so you know which one is which) and start either one at the click of a button. You can also have both running at the same time if you wish.

2) You can use one install of E-D, and log out of the launcher from one account, and log into the launcher for the other account.

I'm lazy and have plenty of hard drive space, so I have two installs and two launchers.

Thank you for that JohnLuke. I have a shed load of email addresses from domain names I own, so I will get to it.

Also I just today tested this with my two accounts.

And it works like a charm.

I downloaded and used this script to grap the token for my main account, it created the launcherless shortcut.
I renamed it to "Elite - TorTorden".
Logged into my second account on the launcher and ran through the script again.
Renamed the second shortcut to "Elite - Bob Bushman" and I can now switch between accounts without having to log in an out of the launcher.
Heck I'm not even running the launcher.

No need for double installs, settings on one are applied to the other etc etc.

Sweet!

The non-lazy part about two installs is that every update has to be downloaded twice.

Tried this but it doesn't work - logging into the launcher with the second account results in the following message:

"Please purchase/redeem Elite Dangerous to continue"

Any ideas how to play it with a second account without having two copies on the SSD?

Edit: missed the above - so there is no way to do it without paying for the game again?

You have to purchase two copies of the game if you want to have two accounts.

Sure would be nice if instead of log out / log in at the launcher, you could just get a drop down with a list of your commander names. Click on which one you want to use.
