Attacked, but why?

Yesterday I was at a civilian settlement scanning the satellites for goodies. Been there before a few times, for ages and never a problem. Yesterday I had scanned and re-logged several times when suddenly after one of the scans, several ships became hostile and opened fire on me. I was very lucky to escape as firstly I was far from alert not expecting it', and secondly I was in a D rated AspX, so not very fast.
I did notice however that the last scan reviled a 'Open Symmetric's Keys' was this the reason?

Since I gave the wrong answer last time, I'm not sure if this helps. But I give it a try.
Here's what happened to me on a surface mission after scanning a "Private" data point.

Hummm, that's interesting sean_crow and maybe its kinda linked. However I never became wanted or anything and I was not on any kind of mission. I was just scanning the satellites for data scans for engineers.

I have been back to this site this morning. Took my Corba this time to ensure a safe get away if it should happen again. I kept scanning until I got the Open Symmetric's Keys data, as I wasted to satisfy for myself if I could reproduce the incident. Despite plenty of ships flying around, nothing happened.

You most likely hit a private data point, or were in an exclusion zone when you scanned.

As Cometborne said: You will get attacked if you scan private data points, or if you stay too long in a trespass zone scanning the data points.
