An easy way to trade is to find a high populated system in a state of famine or outbreak ,then use eddb and find a system one jump away that sells food cartridges/basic medicine ,then sell them to the famine/outbreak .
You can expect to make an average of 2-3k per ton in profit,even more if the famine/outbreak system is selling something good you can take back to the system selling food/meds.

My strategy was to head for a high population Tech system, like Anlave and trade from there.

I will search for the famished and poor, and altruistically make money from their basic needs . I will feel a better human for that

In that case, start loop trading imperial slaves instead of medicines, there are always some nice 4000-5000 cr/ton profit routes.

I certainly offered my services for many many 'human relocation kits' back in the day. Imperial Slaves are not the same as slaves in the Federation. You might want to read up on the differences before deciding that moving them doesn't fit with your RP.

You could consider it doing passenger missions, only without any of the nagging and whining that is usually brought on by passengers.
