You could consider it doing passenger missions, only without any of the nagging and whining that is usually brought on by passengers.

It's best to pick a system stay there and run missions to rank up with the factions.....

I am in a Python in my home system and currently allied with nearly all the factions.....

I am getting some silly money missions...Like 1.5 mill for one jump....

Even had a half mill one to the next station about 27 Ls.....

And I also use my Python in Rez's......

I have noticed that. Rep++ equals better pay. I have been farming rep in my home system.

Speaking of home system, it might change once I start trading. My current home is good for RES BH bit very poor for trading.

I don't do straight out A-B trading.......I just take trading missions.....

Low paying when you start out in a new system.....

But gets better as you progress in reputation.......

You can quickly boost rep with factions that run the station by trading high profit goods.

just take the cannon cg. I had never been there before but after four or five runs the rep needle was buried at 100% allied with the faction.

Bounty hunting and selling discovery data are also good.

So now I have my Vulture and I am using it to BH and do some merc work in CZs.
When I have enough cash, I will buy a Keelback and start the easy life of trading, from A to B listening to Led Zeppelin along the way.

Any recommendations for a fruitful trading career?

Passenger missions have been paying better for me lately and you can get a decent jump range with a Dolphin as a starting liner. I run passengers when I'm watching TV and as long as I remember not to drive myself into a star, I can crank out good cash. I bought an A rated a Python and FDL to add to my crazy collection of ships in the last week from the cash. If you have been doing bounties in a system for a while you'll have the rep. I usually take only transport missions and grab passengers heading to the same or nearby destinations. In a fully kitted Dolphin you'll get about 25Ly without mods so 80 or so Ly is nothing and you can complete them in minutes. At about 1-5 million a mission it will add up fast.

Dude ... this is awesome.
I think I will re-think my strategy, drop trading and keep farming REP. It feels the right thing to do right now.
Trading is not a priority.

When I am bored with faction missions, I will jump into a CZ or RES and blast all to space dust.
