my next step: trading

Postby Orochimaru » Tue May 23, 2017 8:18 am

So now I have my Vulture and I am using it to BH and do some merc work in CZs.
When I have enough cash, I will buy a Keelback and start the easy life of trading, from A to B listening to Led Zeppelin along the way.

Any recommendations for a fruitful trading career?

I have hardly ever done any trading, I am too lazy to try and find the best routes and get bored too easily going from A to B. I made a fair income just taking convoy missions and data transfer missions, jumping around from one place to the other, not knowing where I would be going next. However I am sure a good trading route is a faster way to make money.

I am planing on using one of the websites that help you plan for a trade route. Might work fine.

I've done a lot of trading, and in each playthrough I typically go from Hauler to Cobra to Type 6. I also find I prefer the T6 over the Keelback price and cargo space wise (details at http://coriolis.edcd.io)

From a T6 I usually go to the Python which still fits in a medium pad but has quite a cargo hold.

Lately I haven't found many high paying trade missions or commodities to trade so I've decided to go exploring :-) but to get the best payout for missions you'll want to rank up and become allied with local factions (which you may have already done with your BHing)

If you do find some lucrative trading please post an update.

Thanks for the input CMDR.
The Python is a lovely ship indeed. How does it handle combat?

The lure of the Keelback is the ability to have fighter support to help your trading.
But the Type 6 is cheaper though...

With some engineering, you can build a beast that can solo a low CZ, do protected trading, and passenger missions. My rough base build is this: Smuggler's Blues.

Put in reactive armor and swap the cargo racks for SCB and HRP/MRP for sustained CZ combat, or with passenger cabins for passenger missions. For general mission running, swap some of the small cargo racks for SRV bay/collector limpet controller/FSD interdictor, depending on what you have to do.

I leave the 6A shield generator, the boosters, and the guns in for trading and general mission running, peace through superior firepower.

The Python is on my wish list already.

Main tip.
Don't bother with the keelback.
it's just a bulky and slightly overpriced type 6.
Main feature is the slf hangar that if installed basically leaves you with half the cargo capacity of the type 6.

Don't bother with it. Go straight for a python or if at all a must you can get decent t7 for about 23mil.

Rule 2: No such thing as overkill, as long as there are reloads.

Noted CMDR
I will start with a Type 6 for trade runs and upgrade to a Python later on.
