I haven't engineered other small ships, but I have a Vulture that's received a good amount of engineer love and is a beast in the haz-res.

I always felt like my unmodified Vulture was a beast in a Haz-RES.

I have been wanting to get my weapons engineered to G-5 but I need MODIFIED EMBEDDED FIRMWARE. I have tried and tried to get them from missions with no luck and go on the scanning missions with my SRV...no luck there......I think I am jinxed.

How do I even get to engineering? Do I have to have a certain type of ship? Be at a certain level? I'm pretty new, just bought a Cobra MKIII, and haven't even gotten into combat yet (well, I tried once and got destroyed pretty quickly - I probably took on someone at too high a level).

To go full Elite 4.0:
- Buy a ship with front hardpoint placements.
- Equip as many Shock Mine Launchers you can, Class 2 if possible.
- Give half of them Ion Disruptor, and change half of them to Shift Lock Canisters at the capable Engineer of your choice.
- Get out into a tight asteroid belt, choose a spot full of rolling tumbleweeds.
- lower speed and add some yaw or roll.
- Launch your brilliant new Shock Mines, activate hyperdrive ...
... and make damn sure no-one is after you at that moment.

Might well be A-team worthy.

Side note: Through engineering, you now can make really really good wing support ships of all classes. Worth nothing on their own but rock in wings. Example: Overpowered generation or normal Concordant Sequence on a laser, FSD breaker missiles, and something which has some punch, all of that on a fast build.

Nah, they all have different unlock requirements though.

Like Farseer won't talk to you until you reach scout in exploration (very easy get), or for instance The Dweller require having dealt with five seperate blackmarkets.

Rule 1: Pillage. Then burn.
Rule 2: No such thing as overkill, as long as there are reloads.

Just engineered my Python's 2 multi-canons with Rapid fire (1 incendiary rounds the other corrosive rounds) mods last night. Was using 2 overcharged with the same secondary effects.
Problem was I spent over 2 hrs game time trying to find Technetium. Ended up with 6. So did 3 rolls each.
RNGineers are interesting. But sometimes I wish they didn't exist. And I really dislike the RNG part.

Have fun, fly safe. <o

@Craps ,don't worry too much about overcharged weapons mate, they are over rated ,inaccurate ,power hungry and run very hot.
I've found efficient, rapid, sturdy, short and long range to be very good depending on your choice of ship, wing and game style-)
Xbox GT is Guardsman Z .

Working on my Fer de lance 4A Grade 5 beam and the 4 Multi cannons at grade 5 with 2 of them Corrosive Shell and the other 2 with Incendiary Rounds. All I need is a Modified Emmisions Formware....then working on my Corvette....only have Grade 3 weapons on it
