I wasn't able to scan the logs on the generation ship that I saw over the weekend, either. Not sure what the trick is.

I was able to scan two of the three I visited just fine, but for whatever reason the Odysseus wasn't working... that and it appeared to be slowly falling toward the moon's surface (bug I think )

I had the same problem, and then I realised that the Data Link Scanner on your ship only works when your hard points are deployed

But I -had- my hardpoints deployed and it still didn't work.
