2.3 Beta - annoying Galaxy map changes

Heads up about some annoying new "features" in 2.3 in the Galaxy Map:

  • You know those blue blobs on stalks that show up when you have the grid enabled? Well, in 2.3 they're there all the time, whether the grid is off or on. And the cluster of blue blobs obscures everything else in the area that you are looking at.
  • You know how useful it is to hover the mouse over a star to see its info, or even to select it? Well, in 2.3 you can no longer do that on systems that are not in the immediate vicinty of your current location. For example, you're currently at Sol, and you've bookmarked the "Maia" system. Normally you'd mouse click on it and select "Plot Course." In 2.3 you can't select it unless you can manage to zoom in on its general location.

FD says these are "working as intended"...

:sigh:

Sometimes I wonder what part of the word "game" people don't understand. Elite: Dangerous is and will be a computer (and console) game. Overdoing it with "realism" is plain stupid. Why the need to zoom in that area? Meh...

2.4? Is 2.3 ready for deployment yet?? I find the blue dots super easy when in vr - just need to change the way you think :)

They probably will work out its a bug, I like the hover over a tiny dot and it brings all info up, even zoomed out where there's no visible dot, if your mission, or ship is there it selects the right system

My mistake, should be 2.3. I've edited the thread title.

Have you tried 2.3 beta? You can't turn them off, there are more of them, and they don't disappear when you zoom out.

Actually wouldn't mind not being able to hover and select distant systems... the amount of times I'm trying to get info on nearby systems and somehow accidentally click on something 100+ LY away.. then I need to go back to my starting point and look around again.

I just tried 2.3.4 beta. Can't say I see much of a difference in VR. The blue blobs are only in the vicinity of the cursor. If I zoom out, they become a single blob. And as I don't use a mouse, I need to move the cursor over to highlight a far away system. I guess it must be different in 2D?

See - https://forums.frontier.co.uk/showthrea ... r-Beta-1-4

I'm incredulous that in comment 3, the guy says, "I'm at current undecided on if I like it or not... " WTF? So, not being able to select a system by clicking on it when previously you could is somehow better? Time to watch this - https://youtu.be/-2MSIsp3sL8?t=13m55s

(Note - the YT video is not my video, it's Lukozer's.)

I have to agree with Alex Brentnall (https://forums.frontier.co.uk/showthrea ... ost5313369) and ScytheKnight (above), it's a mixed blessing being able to hover over and click systems outside the near-systems bubble. Phillipus' exemplar might have persuaded me if he had been prepared, coherent and had not insisted on calling all who disagree with him "f***ing brown-nosed c***s.

Having just finished a long journey heading towards a bundle of bookmarked targets, I know how frustrating it is to try to select just one of them. But choosing a target from my bookmarks list and zooming over to it, getting the information I want and them hitting the "Current location" button to return is not a big deal - it's just part of the process.

Unless, of course, it's just too much trouble . . .
