hey all, was wondering if the Keelback is worth getting over the Type-6. Looking for a ship that can do decent cargo runs and hold its own in combat

From what I understand the Keelback is almost an interesting choice... However there's not a whole lot of internal slots on it so it does wind up a compromise between sheilds/fighter bay/cargo.

A shielded and fighter bay equipped Keelback with turrets should be able to defend itself reasonably well... but you'll be sacrificing a fair chunk of cargo space.

Unfortunately for ships that are both good at combat and carry reasonable amount of cargo you're going to struggle until you can get into a Python.

I currently have the type-6 and have gotten fragged over and over when I cant escape an interdiction, last time was the last straw with a full hold(96) of Lanthinum...

I've been flying the Keelback in beta and wish I could have one out in Colonia. Those two medium hard points should work wonders on the pirates rather than running away. But it does lack cargo space compared to the T6, which is really annoying as they look like basically the same ship. Of course, you can add a fighter, but then have very little cargo space. If you don't mind making credits a little slower, and maybe having more fun while doing it, then it's probably a good choice (for a beginner or for role play).

I wouldn't. The only reason to have one is for the fighter bay. Its not much more durable that a type 6 in the real world.
If you are struggling to get away from interdiction's, just submit, 4 pips to engines and boost, boost away until your FSD has cooled (which takes significantly less time if you submit) then jump away.

Oh and trying to put it on target to anything is a pain, its so fat, it turns worse than a bus.

Great taste, less filling....

If the type-6/KB is adequate, then the AspX is ample.

They are all medium sized, and the AspX aint but an odd mil more.

I have an Elite SLF-pilot in my Keelback, I wanted to keep using the pilot otherwise it's 10% out the window with them not doing anything.
I use the ship to do missions, something I enjoy doing anyway. Swapping it's main cargo bay with passenger lounges. So far I've had little trouble in getting rid of any ship attacking me, apart from one fight with a 'Dangerous' Python that took half my hull down (I still came out victorious though). Most other interdictions are from Elite pilots flying smaller ships (Cobra, Scout and the like). These smaller ships pose no threat whatsoever.

I've had it engineered much further than in the Coriolis build.
I don't think I'd have used this ship if I had to use it other than just flying about doing missions, but for what I wanted out of a ship, it suits my needs very well. It's also extremely cheap on the rebuy cost at only ½mil. credits.

I did try the Gunship as an alternative, but I simply enjoyed the Keelback better, a more simple and elegant solution to my needs.
