So , i am making a run out to Colonia.

How much time does unig the Neutron Highway save?

Is it worth taking the slowboat out that way to explore?

I'm no hardcore traveler to Colonia but I have done it 2 (and a half, a white dwarf got me) times. First successful time I started following the way-points with bases but gave that up when I realised how far out of the way it takes you. From then on I used the map filter to find as many neutrons as possible on my way.

2nd time I took the Neutron highway until I reached some decent neutron fields and from there plotted my own route going neutron to neutron until I needed to fuel scoop. That way I got many first discoveries of neutron and other systems.

However you make the journey you will have no end of exploring to do once here as there star fields are so much more populated than in the bubble and there are still undiscovered systems within 150-200 ly of Colonia.

Once you get the hang of things and do not have to hunt for the next neutron, doing a neutron boosted jump will take about twice as long as a regular jump. Since you go four times as far, halving your travel time is not impossible.

Some general tips:
  • Practice using Jackson's Lighthouse. Pick up your supercharge, jump to the nearest system, jump back, charge again. You will need the muscle memory, and if things go wrong, you are a lot nearer to a repair dock then out on the way to Colonia.
  • Do not rely on static lists of highway stars, use the Neutron Router with an efficiency of 80% or so.
  • Always honk the system, quite a few neutron stars have reasonable close secondary components that can be scooped.
  • Read the Neutron Field Guide to understand where the neutron fields are. The pictures in post #47 help. Stay in the fields until it is time for final ascent to Colonia.
  • Bring an AFM or better two, repair your FSD when it drops to 80% health.
  • Have some J3 on hand just in case SHTF.

I'm on my way now with the slow boat.
I've got 8 Galactic Travel Guides with me but for Mobius that's maybe too late, we already have a system/station.
Should I offer them to another group, what do I do?

I started Monday morning and will arrive tonight, only 2,000 LY to go.
The distance is 22,000 LY but I went to the Perseus arm first witch made my journey 7,500 LY longer.
Jump-range 41 LY, I don't use any scary twisting stars to make that more.
I only stop to scan systems that have water-worlds and earth Likes.
I'm a sailor on leave now so do not look at the time it took me, I flew 12 hrs a day..
and I go crazy..

Mammon is not to far.. jump range? Good luck!!

Ughhh.. Im in a 28ly Asp X.

Sounds like its gona take me two weeks. I only get to put in like 4-5 hrs a night.
I am going to have to stop off on some planets for some minerals for Jump extenders..
Im alredy at 80% as i had a fueling mishap..

I may have to turn around.. At least i got at least three systems i am almost positive i got first Discs on...

I made it and got rid of my scan data in "PEDERSEN"S LEGACY" and the guides in Jacques, now cruising around in a Viper :) Only downside; I can not find an Advanced Scanner.

Maybe you should go back for a ship with more range........?

SO, i got 1600ly out from the bubble.. and im turning around..
Another Fuel scoop accident and im damaged.. my AMFU has got me up and running... but my jump range is suffering.

Im goan do some engeneer upgrades on my drive and lighten my load.

How ever! i found two new WHOLE! undiscovered systems. one had a earth like system. I hope my Scan stuff really pays off, im using an advanced scanner so i got all of the bodies i found....

Good job getting there Dree!..
I realize im just not quite ready yet to make that journey.. next week perhaps..
