You don't need to have the planetary surface scanner in order to claim 'first discovered by' on a new planet etc do you? just have to scan the individual body with my long range scanners?

not at all. the surface scanner just adds a little more value to each body.

i went ona passenger trip on my passengerconda. did not have room for a detailed surface scanner. still got plenty first discovereds

Depends where and how you go. you can find some so close as 700ly away.

Couple of thousand LY is a good start, things start to show up a lot more often as undiscovered once you get 2k out, but again..go off the beaten track a bit. If it's on the way somewhere popular it's less likely you will find stuff.

If heading out towards the Heart and Soul Nebula, Theres a yet untagged 71 planet system sitting there.
I'll tell its location you via pm if you are out that way.

I am actually not far off it mate..just at 'The bubble' nebula now..a small detour and I could be there in a few jumps!

Do you use EDSM and EDdiscovery to track your trip btw?

Its also handy for seeing if any other commanders, that are using EDSM have been out that way and how long ago
