Cheers Commanders,
I am looking for Bromellite, *if* that is still required to unlock Bill Turner (is it?). Since I have a heavy distaste for mining, I would prefer an alternative way to get those scary 50 (!) Units ...

Anyone?

Cheers,

yes, still required, also required is a permit for the Alioth system, so I'd suggest to get that first!
Bromellite can only be obtained by mining, so at most you could motivate another CMDR to mine that stuff for you.

Fun fact: Mining is also a great way to rank up with a faction and get said permit. :P

Quick Fact: Bromellite is found in Icy Rings. So are low Temp Diamonds. And there are lots of missions in places for other Icy Ring Stuff.

Okay, thanks ... seems I can't avoid mining :( Might finally stick to a class 2 RNGneers upgrade and go for the other guy with Xihe Comanions instead.

Another one: Is Selene's tipoff needed to reach Bill or do you just have to locate his base and go there?

I really thought mining was going to be terrible, but after some tutorage I could manage 500 Tonnes.
Try it (I'm not saying you will like it ...)

I did, somewhere back in 2014/15 ... well it is definitely something if you need contemplation :)
And maybe it got better (and maybe it is more fun in an Anaconda than in a stock Sidey, granted  )

This is how I go mining.
https://coriolis.edcd.io/outfit/anacond ... =Elizabeth

Prospectors, nearly double the amount of ore in a roid, it's pointless to mine without.
And no less than nine collectors, it sure speeds up the, collecting.

Also a 10 bin refinery, means you don't need to micro manage it until you switch belt types.
Yes this build only has 192t cargo, but trust me.
You want those active collectors more than another 100t cargo.

Bring about 120 limpets when you leave for mining.

I prefer this conda build far more than a cutter, I found the cutter quite terrible at mining, yes you can have all this and nearly 600 tons of cargo.
But do you really want to fill 600 tons of cargo?
I tried and it took me three days worth of game time and I didn't even leave the belt...
Boooring, it's a also quite poor at traversing a belt, to fast, and two slow to stop, and way way to wide. And the hardpoints are a bit awkward, you have to smoosh the cockpit nearly all the way into the rock to be at mining range with the lasers.

Used a Clipper for mining until I realised how awesome module storage was. Sold the Clipper and used the modules on my Python.
Got the Bromelite but didn't realise I needed a permit for Alioth. So spent a week with 50T of Bromelite in my hold trying to get the Alioth permit. :(

Well finally got my efficient PAC. So all good. :)

Yup, grinding for allied status with random faction of what's their face, is the only thing I actually find boring in this game.

Well that and long expeditions, after a few days of any one activity I NEED to change.
Normally I switch things over three times a day.

Tor's advice made it manageable...
