I'm betting it's the next stage of the 'Missing' story, and we are seeing the first glimpse of a generation ship.

Well if you take your attention away from 'ship' you can see on the vulture's hud a system authority ship selected and many other contacts on the scanner, this sort of suggests this is just a station.

Possibly, or it maybe that if generation ships are found that they would be protected and have an armed escort to stop them being attacked (I seem to remember this in the Lore from the original)

Well there is also the small detail that the nearest planetary body is founders....

I am on the side that thinks it is just a station. I seriously doubt it is a ship.

Weren't generation ships to be 100 or 200 km long? I'd need to check The Dark Wheel to verify that.
