Looking for Mining Ship

Postby Falcon_D » Thu Jun 30, 2016 1:26 am

Hello,
Recently I've been coming across mining missions that give out the materials that I want for upgrades. Also, there is a RNGineer that I want to unlock that requires that I mine 500t of stuff.
Been doing the mining missions in Lady Jayne (my Python) but have been getting tired of reconfiguring her for mining and then back to Mission running/exploring/combat/trade.

So now I'm looking to build a dedicated miner for less than 20mil cr. Currently, looking at the Asp Explorer but open to any other ship recommendations.

Thank you.
Have fun, fly safe. o7

I've used a T7 for mining. 4x mining lasers 2x 5A collector, so 6 active limpets

Hello,
Interesting. Maybe I'll give the T7 a go. Since I've never flown one.

Thanks.

The biggest trading ship you can afford is generally the best, although I'd avoid the T9 at the moment due to NPC interdictions. 2 medium mining lasers, 4A refinery, 2 limpet controllers and the rest cargo space (plus shields of course). The longer you can stay out and the more you can mine before having to go unload, the more profit you will make, so max cargo space is what you want.

In descending order I would go with: Cutter, Anaconda, Python, Clipper, T7.

I was just thinking if I should use my trade Cutter for mining. Since I have 1 unused hard point and I would just have to swap the cargo racks for Controllers and Refinery.
At first I thought of buying and keeping a dedicated miner. But I dislike mining. So that ship would have seen very little use.

Have fun, fly safe. o7

I wish to say thank you from me as well. After reading through this topic. I have an idea of what I need to do. To give mining a try myself. Never done it before. And I can not use anything that big. But I am going to try it, when I can get some time to play on ED later

Here's a cheap one I just threw together.

I also hear the dropship makes for an excellent miner.
Let me go check.

Something like this.

Should have more defence than a trader but also cost a pretty penny.

It seems you might have some power issues but if you set the power groups like I have you will simply power down the mining lasers if you need to fight.
I do the same with my anaconda but unless I am actually mining I just leave the mining lasers disabled.
And worst case scenario your guns don't fire, which is a lot better than drifting dead in space.

I like small ships, like Cobra mk IV.
Cheap insurance, and if things go south I'm not losing 400 tons of stuff. Also less chance of getting bored as I need to go to a station more often.
But then again someone could also dislike it for the small cargo. For me it's a good little ship.
I play on PC, in the Mobius PVE Eurasia group.
