Modified Embedded Firmware

Hello,

Did some google research:
https://www.reddit.com/r/EliteDangerous/comments/4mc1qp/high_security_settlement_list_modified_embedded/

Went to Anka. Cross the trespass zone, immediately become enemies with everyone there. Kill skimmers, guardians and turrets. Get bounty on my head. Scan Data Point and nothing just Data link access. WTH?

Am I doing something wrong?

Tried scanning some Medium Security settlements as well and nothing. I did manage to get one by doing a surface data scan mission. The data point I was supposed to scan as part of the mission game me the MEF. But now I'm wondering if it was a one off thing.

Have fun, fly safe. o7

Think this is one of the things you can get from various data points like the access point poi's and encoded signal sources in space.

So far, no luck with the encoded signal sources. Managed to get Commercial Modified Firmware though. Surface data access points as well, no luck. Think maybe I'll put this aside and just go level up another engineer. Or do missions to unlock others.

I don't know how fd managed to.
But they have apparently implemented a system that detects and identifies what you are looking for and makes damn sure it doesn't spawn it.

This is probably the only "feature" that works without flaw or unintended bugs...

You would be surprised what missions give. I've been able to get most of my materials, including various types of data, from missions. Check every station you visit. The mission description tells you what you'll get.

Listed as very rare at Inara, and found as a mission reward or from a surface data point, and used in 13 engineer blueprints

A very good resource for engineer info/resources:

I've got 3. One from one Med sec/high pop and two from another med sec/high pop. My videos here:

Hello,
Thanks for the video. I scanned 2 Med Sec/+++ settlements twice. And nothing poped up. Didn't know how to get to the last data point without triggering security until I saw your video.
Do you have to scan all the data points within the time limit to get the firmware?

You could also try as Damien suggests, checking out missions on the station boards, a lot of the data "materials" required for engineers can be gotten there, as well as commodity materials too.

With missions, do check the rewards, if you dock to hand in a mission and can't see the one you want to hand in, check the mission in your transactions to see if it has cargo rewards as well, then check you have the cargo space for it, i was doing data deliveries in my iEagle with no cargo and it took me ages to figure out why i couldn't hand in some missions. Switched to my Cobra MkIV and pop, there i was able to hand the missions in as i now had cargo space free

Fly safe commander.

Hello,
Tried checking Mission boards for the MEF. Did the mode switch trick as well. It was the 1st thing I tried. But as Tor pointed out, it seems that the game engine is setup to give you exactly what you are not looking for.
For example, while scanning the mission boards for MEF, I got a mission for Core Dynamics Composites. Something very rare and not what I was looking for, but did the Mission to get it as I know I'll need it later. Then as I was running away after scanning settlements for MEF, I came across Aresnic, Tungsten and Yittrium.

Have fun, fly safe. o7
