Scan detected

Postby Ghworg » Fri Jun 17, 2016 12:49 pm

Bit of a noob question from someone who should know better having being playing for months but...

When I select a CMDR ship and it starts auto-scanning to give me basic information like their name, wanted status etc. Does that trigger the "Scan Detected" notification for them, or is it only if I use a scanner manually such as a KWS that it says that?

Good question actually, as far as I understand and experienced, scanning other ships 'passively' or autoscanning, will not result in a 'Scan Detected' notification for the other ship.

Certainly my experience with NPCs is that they only run when you KWS them, so a passive scan probably doesn't trigger anything.

only cargo and KWS scanners set off scan detected, a friend and myself actually experimented with this.

There is a third scan: Unknown Artefacts will also scan you if you get within 1 km. They will also send out encoded morse messages with a wireframe diagram of your ship or the name of the planet they are on. Oh, and they will scream if you destroy (kill?) them.

The general theory is that the scan is a cargo scan, but there is no hard evidence for that.
