After more trial and error with different Corvette loadouts, I've settled on this one:

Two huge cannons and a mix of pulses and beams. I put beams on the small hardpoints to maximise their usefulness as they stay on target most of the time, while the large hardpoint spends a lot of time off-target because of its bad position on the bottom.

Edit: small gimballed beams, not fixed beams!

I was thinking about running that same setup Phillipus, except that I'll go with gimballed small beams. :)

My loadout is pretty much the same, the cannon are fun and with practice can be very effective.

For the large front hardpoint go turreted, it allows you to hit above the 'waterline'.

Interesting, thanks for the tip.

Another thing - the medium hardpoints are not very good with fixed weapons, I find they don't converge. So I only use gimballed there.

Me too.

G on everything except the turreted 3 at the front.

I love it when the Cannon connect, just looking forward to the huge Multi.

This is my current loadout

I tested those advanced plasma accelerators in the main weapon slot, but the effectiveness dropped too much. I just LOVE those dual A4 plasma accelerators.

Only problem now is that im going to be in trouble when i get those Prismatic Shields because there is no way that ship has enough power for those and dual plasmas.

I don't use stronger bulkheads unless I'm short of slots (FAS, FdL). I stick a couple of Hull Reinforcement Packages on my Corvette, but mainly rely on the shields not going down.
