Python sucks for combat.

Got almost destroyed by an npc FAS, while I was trying to mine. I just can't make this thing turn, FA off or on. I'm going to replace all it's weapons with turreted versions, as it is I can't hit a moving elephant. At least I'll be hitting something, even if it's lost in efficiency.

Which rating thrusters are you using?

Maybe it's simply 'not the right ship for you'?

I absolutely LOVE my 'thon, not planning on anything else, and my primary role is killing bad guys.

I'm sure many other happy 'thon-jockeys will say something similar, as soon as they read your words.

I'm using D rated thrusters, I know it needs A but I can't afford it currently. Hell, I didn't go looking for combat either, but not being able for basic self defense is unacceptable. Yes, I'm using it to mine, it's not set up for combat, so? It's a game, I don't want to apply for NASA pilot's degree! So, those of you who say that love it: How this thing can defend itself?

I feel for you man. When I started with it, I was of the same opinion. As a result I have really tried to keep the weight down to help with this. It is still clearly not the most nimble ship in the galaxy but she packs a very good punch, and has strong shields.

FAS' I have lots of issues with, very quick to turn on you and unless you dispatch them quickly it gets ugly really quick. Stick with it though I use 3 gimballed pulse (L) and they chew up most ships in no time.

Ay, she'll suck until you get the A rated thrusters I'm afraid. Remember that the Python is basically a cargo ship with teeth, even the in-game description has it as being "slow and sturdy".

I've had many a happy hour with Delphyne, and she has many kills to her name, but there are a lot more manoeuvrable ships out there, and the FAS is a particularly good example.

I don't know if you are mining in a RES, but if you are my advice would be don't, mine in a random section of a ring well away.

Funny thing, I was in a random spot! Still, NPCs spawned. Must be my good luck today :(

Anyway, until I can get A rated modules, seems my only hope is turrets.

The Python, when properly outfitted and the pilot has some practice with FA off, is a force to be reconned with. Charlie, you've seen this in person since you've seen mine in combat. Many, many commanders here **LOVE** the Python for combat.

The Python is one bad ass combat ship. I work a Haz-RES alone all the time, and take down any solo ship that comes along.

Your Pyhton is not well equipped yet and I know that from the length of time that you've been playing E-D, that you still have much to learn, young padawan. You'll get there, no doubt. Just don't blame the ship for 'being crap', when you just bought it this week, it's not upgraded, and you are pretty new to the game and are still learning.

If the Python isn't working for you, look at a different ship. But I will say this.... all of the larger ships turn slowly and take some getting used to.

JL, I appreciate the advise of my seniors (and I mean more experienced), in a way this post is a shout for help. I'm being defeated too easily, I can't even hit the target. I did try some FA off practise, the turn rate seems exactly the same to me. And bottom line, I can't afford to lose the ship. I'm not that rich yet! Looking at a different ship, for what? I already have the Vulture for bounty hunting, this is not why I got the Python.

I was in a similar situation when I first got my Python (didn't even have a fall back ship). I found trading for a bit soon got me a decent amount of cash. One of the real advantages of the Python is the ability to haul large volumes of goods to outposts.
