Ok, i know that i need the planetary approach suite to land. I have that but i still can't land. Do i need the hangars for the SRV's as well equipped to land?
I keep moving to the airless planets, got to 'OC', indicator hit 'DRP' it says I dropped too close, halfway through i got the 'body exclusion zone hit' something something if i could remember. Just some pointers it'll really help.

I get exactly this, but in my case I don't have horizons, so to be expected I suppose.

Yeah let me start off the process of elimination and ask the obviously silly question.
You have purchased Horizons, have you not?

Really obvious question I know, but you do have Horizons right, and if so you are playing in it?

If you have Horizons (I assume you do if you have a Planetary Landing Suite), you have two options in the Launcher (three if you include ED 32 bit). Make sure you click on Elite Horizons and not Elite 64 bit (that's just the core game without Horizons)
I hope this doesn't sound patronising as that's not me. I can just see how that mistake could be made

My only thoughts are that you are either going too fast, too steep, or too shallow. I've only seen the body exclusion zone message before horizons. You may want to try another planet, though I assume you did.
Btw, anybody try landing on a planet with an atmosphere? This may be what happens.

I have a Planetary Landing Suite module installed in my ships and I don't have Horizons. Like I said, my game behaves exactly as the OP described, hence I was making the obvious suggestion, but trying to be subtle about it

Why do they provide planetary landing suites in 1.5? That seems kind of stupid.
Maybe it's a gentle reminder that you can't land on planets unless you buy Horizons.

I was responding to the OP.
Frontier must have just Copy/Pasted the mechanics (or place holders for 1.5) across to all versions. Doesn't sound like them!
