Elite: Dangerous PvE - Mobius

Just a quick reminder to all of us who are anxiously awaiting the release of Horizons sometime Tomorrow:

BACKUP YOUR BINDINGS FILE

BACKUP YOUR APPCONFIG.XML/GRAPHICSCONFIG.XML FILES

If you have made any changes to add Verbose logging for 3rd party utilities, Done a Custom HUD Colour, Or have a Specific Network Setup you should backup these files as well as your Custom Keybindings to ensure you don't have problems when the new download overwrites these files.

Also, if you have heard that using an APPCONFIGLOCAL.XML or GRAPHICSCONFIGLOCAL.XML will keep your changes safe, you heard wrong. These files will get wiped out by the update. FD doesn't just overwrite the files, they delete the entire Configuration and then put new versions in place. But if you have a backup of these files, you can just pop them back in place once the update is done.


Also, as posted by Michael Brookes himself in This Message, Any missions that you have that you have NOT completed or Turned in Will be wiped because of changes to the mission system.

So if you were hoping to keep that Kill Pirates mission because it had a 2 week period to get it done, you WILL loose it. I do not think that this affects any CG rewards that have not been redeemed yet, although I have asked.

Still remember the update to eve-online that deleted your c:\boot.ini file because they had a "boot.ini" file for the game as well and one of the installer scripters missed a few key strokes...

For those not super techy, if you delete the boot.ini file your PC will not know where your windows XP installation is and cant boot into windows, sure you can remake the boot.ini file easily enough, but without a second computer you can't exactly google them...

A future tip I noticed at least with horizon's is that if you set a customized name on the file and on line 2 if you change settings that file will NOT BE DELETED
The game will then instead simply create versions of your file like WhateverYouWantHere.1.0 and WhateverYouWantHere.1.1 etc etc
The game only loads the highest version but I now have no less than thirteen older\backup versions of my bindings.

I'm still going to save these for horizons sine you know, anything can happen
