I keep dancing on the fence with this one, but I will probably sit out the trip. I'm working longer hours and using more of my in-game time to help my brother get started these days. It would be kinda hard to ditch him when I likely couldn't keep up with the fleet anyway.

Roger Wilco Jr wrote:I've pretty much settled on this as my DWE ship. I really think planetary landings is a game changer for exploration, especially for a super long trip like this. With smaller and D rated equipment, even on low-g planets, just a slight lapse in concentration can lead to losing shields and hull damage, if not outright destruction. I still fly into suns, so I expect to have more than a few hard landings. I really wanted A rated power plant and shields and settled for larger D rated thrusters and power distributor. I'm also bringing two buggies. I'll have to use some Jumponium, but the materials are fairly easy to find and I already have all the stock I expect to need. I think that with these bigger and better modules I should be able to survive little mistakes. I'm afraid that a lot of people with small and D rated modules aren't going to make it.

P.S. They have over 450 commanders signed up now.

I've also settled on my boat for my DW runner. Before anyone says it, I KNOW :) but like they say, 'its better to have and not need than..' !
Going unarmed and without 'extras' only adds 3.5 ly jump range so im happy sacrifice that for feeling comfortably safe from the unexpected.

As for landing on planets, for me its not the same as watching tv while waiting to drop out of warp. If i am landing then tv is on pause :) I've had no problems landing on low G planets (2g-) with smaller than usual D rated thrusters or D shields. If anything higher is picked as a base camp then i'll land somewhere else, though with the amount of Connies going they should be choosing low G camps.

This is the Internet. NEVER read the comments! :D

The arguments against are the same as on the FD forum. It's boring, there is nothing to do. Same thing I used to say to my mom during summer vacation.

Ah well. Good on you people's doing this. Make your own way in the galaxy.

My ASP back in Azrael is ready to go, have all the mats etc.
Wanted to make friends with the alliance before leaving, by cashing in wanted bounties with them, done that now and will head back to Azrael tomorrow. Pick up the ASP and depart for the start point on Wed, all ready for the big departure on Thurs.

if anyone is last minute looking for mats, this google sheet is a great help

See you all there commanders.

It is wonderful to see community doing a massive project for the game's massive galaxy. Unfortunately, that is a huge time to invest for me.
