Messy Launcher Update, Eh?

I don't know about you guys, but installing the new launcher took 15 minutes and the damned thing tried to shut down my computer without my say-so.

It's hard to keep remembering this is Frontier's first online game. Thankfully, Frontier does its best to keep reminding me. :)

No problems here, couple of minutes, maybe, but I was running something fairly heavy in the background.

The game's a good start, it's a great crowdfunding success story, but now it's time for Frontier to grow up a little and start paying more attention to QA. Automatic restart is a no-no. People run other stuff during updates. Some of that stuff might be important. That's why other game companies don't do auto restarts.

It would also be nice to see Frontier pay a bit more attention to little bugs, like the T9's borked HUD or the fact that courier missions don't pay what they say they're going to pay. I can see how some might think I'm "coming down on the company" or whatever, but the fact remains that Frontier is in the gaming business, charging money and selling product. When 2.0 hits, I fully expect these kinds of wrinkles to be smoothed if Frontier expects me to keep paying.

If that offends some people, then it is what it is. But Frontier's gotta pick it up. No time for resting on laurels. Other space games are coming. (I don't count Star Citizen among them until more of the actual game is released.)

The auto restart is NOT the problem of FD. Its MS fault on the VB runtimes.

And yes, QA has to be better. They have done a lot better with communication lately, but they still need to work on that, and QA as well as addressing bugs and the status of bugs that are LONG TIME listed.

I've never had an auto restart on any other game update, even SWTOR.

Also, HOW THE FUCK DO I GET THE GODDAMNED THING TO QUIT AUTOLAUNCHING MY BROWSER?!

I mean, this is straight-up rookieass bullshit! XD

It consistently launches a link to its support page saying "if you're getting X error message, then you need to download this fix". (Never mind that we couldn't include this in the installer package for whatever reason.) Also, the game cannot be played with the launcher open now. I have to close it, otherwise it consistently flickers back and forth between launcher and client.

On the plus side, I am no longer seeing horrid rendering of in-station graphics, though I credit the display driver update more with that than I would the launcher update, naturally.

I would reinstall the launcher, sounds like something went south.
