The Final Word on Buying ED on Steam and the 30%

For reference, see this post and thread: https://forums.frontier.co.uk/showthread.php?t=148965

TL;DR

If you buy ED on Steam, or use the Steam Key that FD Provides to you for free to activate the game on Steam, EVERY PURCHASE you make from now on, EVEN ON THE FD Store means that 30% of the purchase goes to steam. This includes anything that is available on steam. Buy a Paintjob on the FD store? 30% goes to steam.

The only exception is physical merchandise that is NOT available on steam such as Mugs, Hoodies, Shirts, Books, or such.

This is not properly understood by people, and is often mentioned as "Oh that can't be right". Well, it is true.

I do like Steam, but I agree that the 30% seems pretty high. I wonder if it is worth it, meaning that does Steam bring that many new customers in that would not have bought the game otherwise.

Edit: Did not know that the Steam tax affects FD store DLC too. Now that I think about it, it kind of makes sense why.
My copy is not in my Steam library, and don't even know if it can be added there. Does all new game purchases go to Steam now, like if I would buy another copy of the game?

If you buy it directly from Frontier it doesn't go through Steam at all

As long as you have NOT bought the game on steam, or Activated your Steam Key. Now, as it stands, we are not sure about Horizons, as it is Not yet on steam, but even that may put 30% in Steams pocket as well as all other purchases once it is available there.

Well, if E:D wanted all of my cash, they should have had a PayPal payment option to purchase the game from the store when I bought it.

one of the reasons Ill keep my steam-less version of ED. Plus you can add the game as a non-steam, and steam overlay works also.

Huh. Too late for me, though. I bought ED on steam when a friend talked me into trying it at his house.

The link between ED and Steam can be removed on frontierstore.net (Partner keys)

I was once linked ED to my Steam account but not any more.
