I'm finding the AI scripts for the npc pirates a little strange - I've come across most classes "no point flying all the way to dangerous" but I came across a competent eagle earlier and no joke.. It took nearly 5 minutes to get through his shields - between jousting and constantly pitching up and the odd multi cannon round squeezed off - we where pretty much zipping past each other aimlessly and him firing off dumb fire missiles whilst I still had full shields - in the end the cops showed up and suddenly he started acting like he had forgot how to pilot..

I know I could been better prepared with beams.. But I love the multi cannon setup as I can usually rip a small ship apart In seconds and I love sitting underneath an asp watching it meander around twisting whilst I fire booty loads of kinetics into his power plant :) pop they go

Had a DB Explorer that I didn't even time the fight but as many SCB's and such that it had... holy heck. I was afraid I was going to run out of ammo. I wonder now, with the 1.5 changes what the effect will be on NPC ships that pop SCB's like they are in a pvp fight.

I still keep laughing to myself about this one fed gunship who boosted into an asteroid.
It didn't kill him though so he repeated the effort not once but twice, just to make sure I guess...

Bit like the genetic pool, the ai pool must be huge and varied lol - some of em are plain dumb... Suppose it's good that way - until I work up confidence to take on a fairly decent anaconda in my little viper and I regret saying that

If you try it in a RES soon you may get a welcome surprise. I've had many large, deadly ships react to being shot at by careening immediately into asteroids trying to pull fancy sideways F/A off moves.

Yeah - the deadly and elite pilots seem to be the worst when it comes to this. It's supposed to be fixed in the beta.

Honestly, I kind of like that it happens sometimes because it's a mistake that anyone can make, especially while trying to fight while flying in a direction you can't look. I just wish they wouldn't go nose-first at full speed anymore.

What I expect from the fix is that the AI will develop supernatural situational awareness and stop making this mistake ever in any situation. That's fair enough for an elite, but I suspect a competent AI won't be doing it anymore either.

This is one of my favorite things to watch, but it rarely, if ever, happened before 1.4, iirc. You can also maneuver them into an asteroid during a KW scan, which will knock down their shields a bit. Maybe FD will show a little depth and have low ranked pilots make some mistakes.

Considering how much I bang around res fields I can't really fault them for it ;)

Still funny as hell though.

Why can't I get lucky like this.. I usually have to make a run for open space to jump out before I get popped.
