It's gonna suck not buying Horizons.

But I am firmly committed to not purchasing anything else until Frontier offers more support for the PvE community. Ideally, Mobius would be moved to the server select screen, labeled "PvE", and monitored much more closely by the developer. (At the VERY least, Mobius should have a much more prominent showing on the official website. Not even close to everybody wants to play their video games under a constant sense of apprehension. How the hell is that FUN?!)
I appreciate the hell out of Mobius' hard work, but if that guy bails we're screwed. I'm not sinking a pile of money into the game with that kind of possibility dangling. Braben's got a good thing going here, but if he continues to try and funnel people into Open Play he's screwed the second Star Citizen goes live.
I'd rather not see that happen.

That's the hope, of course. But what if the unthinkable occurs? What happens to us? What happens to a cooperative galaxy? Where do we go from here?
I didn't get what I have by banking on uncertainties. Frontier wants my financial support. I want an assurance of the future. I don't see it as an unreasonable trade.

Mobius has invested a lot in ED, both financially and time wise, he's in for the long haul.
But if for what ever reason he wasn't able to continue with the private group, given the size of the group I have no doubt a quick chat with FD and I'm sure they would sort something out.
I think you are quite safe in your investment.

I'd like to see Braben step up and admit he was wrong about cooperative PVP and institute an official PVE option. Ideally, if Mobius goes for it, the Mobius PVE group would be the core and then let the hoards join in. I don't know how many players there are, but if there was an official PVE option with 100,000 or 500,000 commanders, and Mobius with 15,000 (a small fraction of those active I'd bet), I'd probably switch to the official group. It would be a lot less lonely out in the burbs.

This is pretty much making storm in a tea cup.
Mobius a tripple elite group for a reason, meaning Liam has a direct line of communication with FD.
"Mobius" is also an
Elite:Dangerous ambassadorWell, making the group more public is merely a PR problem, and luckily The Code is helping us out greatly in that regard every time the spout some nonsense or try trolling us.
The real problem with this game is there isn't any way of connecting with other players, unless you see one out your window and say hi, it's pretty futile making things like TS and other third party solutions necessary, they need to setup a unversal chat system so people who wants to do the similar things can find eachother.

It's not a knock against the owner of the group or his own personal commitment. But sometimes, unfortunately, the unthinkable happens and without any kind of official commitment to the PvE experience, I'm awfully hesitant to continue investing. I wish I could see more official, quotable support for the Elite PvE experience. Even that would go a long way toward addressing my concerns.
But as it stands, right now what I see is a game company that wants as little to do with the concept as possible. And I don't understand why. What's so bad about wanting to fly around in space without having to worry so much about sociopaths? Every other MMO I've played, without fail, has had a dedicated PvE option. (Not only that, out of every game I've ever played PvE was far and away the most popular choice of gameplay.)
I'm not trying to start a thing here or badmouth anyone. I'm just trying to voice a concern I have about the direction the game is trending. Feel free to disregard.

If the "unthinkable" (that we are actually thinking of right now btw).
There isn't anything special with mobius's group, game mechanics wise.
So anyone can start up a new one, granted it won't be called mobius but that is the only main difference.
Any CMDR can start his own group, this is NOT a server but a white list for the instancing / matchmaking server.
Only thing mobius has to do to manage it is login a couple of times a day and accept new applicants, and maybe 86 a griefer every odd moon.
What is actually important for the group even as adhoc as we are, is the forums, TS etc to spread the word.
Take community goals for instance, those are usually so crowded in Mobius the instancing and networking go apeshit, (anacondas rubber banding through station walls, ships landing on top of you and landing pads behaving badly or stuck in a loop of entering/leaving hangar.
In the res that gets even worse when you can find yourself competing with 3 other wings for the same pirates.
Solution is simple you group up on TS and one of you has a group you drop into, if not it takes 3 seconds to start one (you can't even rename it) and you accept your wingmates on the spot.
Saves you from most of the lag and the drama around kill thieving and stray shots. In these busy places you just know some cmdr will swoop his vulture/eagle between your turret anaconda and the target, take a hit and get bitchy about it.
Don't get me wrong it takes considerable dedication to do what mobius does, I'm just saying it wouldn't be game over if he decides to stop.
If you are going to try blackmailing FD it would make more sense to do so over the horrendous shield recharge times.

It would definitely be game over for me. I have no interest in playing either in Open or in a smaller group. What's more, I don't feel like PvEers are exactly welcome on the whole in the Elite: Dangerous universe. I've had to get money back from developers before for being dissatisfied with the product offered - this time around, it seems more prudent to simply not buy in and state why.
I had to spend an entire weekend once harassing Perfect World Entertainment to get my money back. I'd really rather not go through that process again.
