A quick Imperial Naval Ascension Opportunity

After months of off-and-on play, I finally got a promotion opportunity! Naturally, it came at the most inopportune time. In preparation to log off last night, I went to turn in my bounties and accidentally selected Bulletin Board instead of Contacts. There they were, several of these coveted missions staring at me. Most were courier missions too! I tentatively checked one.. It was for the same system! I call out, "Hey, I have to do one more thing. Should be just a few more minutes.." Accept.

I travel the 1,000 or so LS, watching for possible interdictors.. I finally get within 2ls and start focusing on my approach to the station. Suddenly, I get interdicted. I'm not sure why, but I can never seem to evade these damn things, so I check my pips (2 to systems, 4 to engines) and submit.

At first, all I see is a Diamondback Scout, marked as Enemy. He wastes no time in opening fire. Cool, I get to defend myself. I line up, and start firing. Oh, there's a second ship, a Viper. No biggie, let me just toast this DBS real quick.. I feel like I'm doing okay, then I look at my shields. Crap, they're almost gone! Apparently, that Viper had been doing quite the number on my shields, and I think I may have poorly selected which target to go after first.

I ended up boosting out of there, hoping my pursuers didn't collapse my shields, as without them, there isn't much to my little Courier.. I finally build some distance, all while watching my shields recharge ever so slowly.. By the time I had one strong ring of shields, the only pursuer on my scanner was the Viper. FA off, turn my ship around, and wait for the Viper to get within firing range.. A short dogfight later, the Viper was dead, and I earned a whopping 400 credit bounty. So not worth the extra time. The DBS is nowhere to be seen, and not worth going back for, so I align to my destination and enter SC.

I reach my destination, and I dock with no further incident. Turn in my mission, and earned Master in the Imperial Navy, woohoo! What's staring at me on the Bulletin Board? At least eight more Naval Ascension Opportunities! Dagnabbit, those had better be there when I log in next time!

They won't be there. Now that you have turned in the Mission and got the Advancement, the next refresh will remove them.

One thing to remember is that once you see the Rank mission, they will keep popping up. If you log off, you will have to do a couple of missions next time before they pop again. And you can wait to get a simple one. Last rank I had popped as a Kill a Civilian. I ignored it, continued doing my Smuggling and over the next hour has all forms of them pop up. Haul, Fetch, Kill. I was not worried. Logged out for the night, came back in the next night, did a couple and they all popped up again.

I have been in Imp Space. I have only Cadet in Fed. Finally ended back at a fed base to cash in Bounties and up popped a haul rank mission. But I was done for the night. It popped up again the next day immediately. Once they start to show, until you take and finish, they will show up.

Taking more than one will do nothing. First one completed causes the advancement, and the rest do nothing and will disappear after you refresh the board.

Alas, you're right.. They showed in the same refresh where I turned one in. At least now I know I didn't make the wrong decision in forgoing those last night. Only four more ranks to Clipper! By then, I should hopefully have earned enough credits..

Sadly it's beaten by the asp explorer in pretty much anything.
Until you get a python :/

Sure it has large hard points but their placement is pretty weird, and even using 7A shields at 50 mil the courier will still have more shields..

Actually the one role I think the clipper would be great at is mining, a 128t cargo bay, class 4 refinery and a bunch of limpet controllers. And decent headlights for dark belts.

I primarily like the aesthetics of the Imperial ships. iEagle and iCourier are gorgeous. I love the shields on the iCourier, and that's the main reason I fly it over the Viper I had for so long. I'm still undecided on my next combat ship.. I tried the Vulture and didn't care much for it. I've been outfitting ships on Coriolis, but my priorities are higher DPS and even bigger shields.

I'm with you, I just love the iCourier it's my favourite toy still, just wish it had a bit more dps, I have dual beams and the hammer on mine so did is ok but OMG the freaking heat buildup. .

I too went for rank in empire because of the clipper, and probably spent a couple of months (I wasn't very efficient at it) ranking for baron.
In short the clipper is gorgeous, quick but it has barely more dps than a vulture but it's a bit big for its shields and given its almost as wide as a type 9 npc's will hit you a lot more as well.
The a7 class shield generator costs 51 mil (it's the same as the Anaconda I believe) but it only gives you some 300Mj, less than half of what the same module gives you on the Anaconda. ..

This is just my opinion and there are quite a few who consider it the perfect ship so in the end as always only opinion that matters is your own.

I will probably get back to ranking as well soon, I do want that cutter in my fleet ;)

Is Baron the rank that will be required for the iCutter?

Baron is for The Clipper. The Cutter will be much higher. I imagine King.
