I like my docking computer!

I finally thought that I'd try a docking computer as they seem to be fairly safe now.
I don't have any problems with docking but it does get a bit boring after a while.
So I thought that I'd equip my Python with one, and I must say that I'm very impressed!
It docks quicker and neater than I can and I've had no issues with it getting anywhere near to crashing me into anything.
It even queued up neatly behind an NPC ship and followed it into the dock.
I must admit I was a bit worried the first time I tried it, as it seems that the only way to disengage it once you've received docking permission is to go in and disable the module.
I've also noticed that it even alters the power distribution, putting full pips into system, presumably just in case it crashes into something!

Yup, it's pretty awesome. :) I've got one on my Python too. I *love* it at outposts. No more circling around to find your pad. And it will boost to get you docked as fast as possible, too.

For station,s I fly thought the mail slot then throttle down and let it auto-dock. BTW, to stop auto-dock you can turn off the module as you stated, or throttle up to disengage. ;)

I love docking comp as I get my beer, smoke, food, moan from the wife etc etc and still feel as though the game is keeping on track. HMMM don't think the Mrs would agree though :)

Yep.....

Always had one......Memories of docking in 84.....

The earlier models were a bit crap to say the least and fooking deadly in some cases.....

But the latest incarnation is not bad.......

First time landing on an outpost scared the shit outta me.....Boosted towards pad and the nose down......

But now I just get about 4 km and engage it and it does not boost......Gives me time to check my panels......Missions...Stats etc and have a slurp......

Oh and just increasing speed will cancel it.......

Used that when I did not realise I was carrying illicit cargo......Engaged it....Looked around...Thought "Oh Dear".....

Throttled up...Sped through the slot.....Throttle back.....Comp took over and landed.....

Mind you only done it the once...So don't take it for granted.....I might just have been lucky.....

But increasing throttle definitely cancels it.....

Thanks for that, if I'm ever nervous I'll have my hand hovering over the throttle!!
Yep, I found the first outpost landing to be a bit scary too. Although, when I think about it, it's quite a sensible way to approach the pad, it keeps you clear of the rest of the station, when they sometimes have bits sticking out at odd angles....

You guys should have seen the old docking computer. XD

The most recent one, though, is a must-have on every ship I own.

docking computer is great, especially at kaushpoos last week, it can even do simple evasive manuver like stopping or do lateral thrust.
but if there are a lot of cmdr traffic in and out, docking computer can became malfunction, and u just stay at waiting queue, FOREVER. :D
edit: oh, dont forget to dance with music that played with docking computer.

It's great for smuggling missions in stations. Line up with the slot. Full speed in then as you are passing through the slot. Zero the throttle, mine is bound to x. Then sit back and let the docking computer do its thing :)

I can never justify using a module slot for one. There's always another module I'd rather have, and if I just have to land manually to have it then so be it.
