Ouch!

I'm in my Python, with a full load of Berylium, heading towards a system where I've got about 300k in bounties to collect.
I got interdicted by a pirate, I submitted immediately as the last few have been suicidal Eagle pilots who think they can take me out. It's been funny seeing them saying "you have no chance now!" just before I blow them out of the sky.
This time was different.... I scanned the guy, he's "Deadly" in an Anaconda.
Well I reckon I can take him, I've beaten 'condas before.
But this was one tough cookie, he battered my shields down and started chewing up my hull.
He wasn't having it all his own way though, I'd dropped his shields too and gotten him down to 48%.
Unfortunately I was down to 19% and then he breached my canopy.
Time to make a run for it!
I get enough distance between us to get to SC and head for the station. I've still got over 20 minutes of oxygen so I'm thinking I'm OK.
Then I'm interdicted again... I try and fight it this time but the Python's not quite agile enough to escape.
SO I'm dragged out of SC and it's the same Anaconda!
I keep my distance and get my shields back up, his are still down so I reckon I'll have a go at finishing him off.
I get him down below 20% and he's doing the "oh, no!" bit, so I'm feeling better.
Then... dunno if he had a rail gun or plasma or something but suddenly he's hit me with something major and the rest of my hull goes!
So it's BOOM and back to rebuy screen for the first time in months.
Fortunately I NEVER fly without insurance so I get my ship back but I've lost my cargo and bounties.
On the bright side it also wiped out the 400 CR I had on my head for a minor error during a battle, but I wasn't really sweating over that!
So I'm 4,378,555 credits poorer, and maybe a bit wiser......
Still, it's only a game, right?

I feel your pain.

Just lost my T-9 to an Anaconda. After 11 months, I thought I finally figured out what to do about these pirates. The guy instantly starts firing as I rush to drop 100T of cargo, but apparently that wasn't enough and he kept firing. As I was selecting more cargo to drop, I got a module malfunction that made that impossible. So it's BOOM and 6.5 million in insurance (more than my combined claims to date) and another 8.5 million worth of cargo.

What kind of idiot keeps firing on a helpless ship that isn't running and is dropping cargo? The NPCs are effing psychopaths and little different than griefers in open.

And this is why I do all and any trading in a tank conda hauler.
learned this that after 1.3 being somewhat ranked in combat rating flying a t9 was not feasible. .

there's a few mistakes done above.
First when you get interdicted first thing to do is hit select nearest hostile, that will show what is and what rank he has. It should also tell if he is in a wing or not but that's bugged.
knowing prepares you for what you are going to do when you drop out of cruise.

If I see it's python or conda ranked dangerous or up I don't bother fighting there really isn't a point when you trading.
2 don't get to 20% remaining hull. I get the hell out before my last shield ring starts taking damage or at the point where I would use shield cells if I had them.
And jumping between systems bypasses mass lock from ships...

 What's this now? Seriously? I never knew that. It may have saved me.

Anyhoo, before 1.4 I had only lost 1 ship to pirates. I used to fight every time, but then took to heart that he who fights and runs away may live to fight another day. But giving up cargo to criminals was still anathema to me. Then comes 1.4 and I lose an Asp to a wing of pirates. I ran once, but they followed and finally got me. Then I lost a T-9 to a Python, but it was just an E-rated ship. At that time I A-rated it and decided that it would start getting too expensive to lose, especially considering I wasn't using shields to maximize cargo. I decided I was going to try jettisoning cargo. A few days later I get interdicted by a dangerous Python. He start firing and I drop 100T. He said that wasn't enough so I dropped another 100T and he left me alone. I thought eureka, I've figured out how to survive. Sure, I lose my profit and maybe a little more, but I don't lose all my cargo, or my ship. Then comes last night.

The station is only 10ls from the star. I heading there and see someone pop in at the star. I select him and see a Conda. Recently these have all been system vessels, so I wasn't too worried. But then I saw him turn to follow me and I though oh shit!. About 1 second later I was interdicted. I knew what I was going to do - submit and drop cargo. What do they say about the best laid plans? Maybe if I'd dropped 200T to start with...

Maybe it's time to put shields on the T-9 so I can maybe survive long enough to run? Maybe I should learn to fly and fight my Conda? But I'm at about 95% Elite and should make it in 1-2 days, and then I can forget about trading and go back to concentrating on BH. I think I'll risk it. :P

Yeah I also thought WTF? when I heard about hypercruise/system jump and mass locking.
But it's now saved me a couple of times and I get no charge up penalty making a system jump rather than entering supercruise.

I still think this it is a bit weird and I expect them to eventually patch it but I'm not in a rush to report it :p

(Role play warning)
Honour is a thing for the poor, and small children.
I achieve my objective by any means I feel serve me best.

If that is running like a scared howler monkey or stabbing people in the back and burning their children alive then that's what I will do.

I just want to add that the jump out of system trick saved my bacon (my stupid, dumb-assed bacon) yesterday. Thanks.

I only played about 1 hour. After being followed by an Anaconda, I got so spooked that I traded 25% of my cargo capacity for A7 shields and a couple A0 boosters. A few minutes later I was interdicted by another Anaconda. That's 2 times in less than 1 hour of game play. Anyway, I was feeling kind of tough and he was only competent, so I thought I'd see how the old T-9 (actually, brand new insurance claim) would do. I got his shields down first (should have run when I saw he had shields), but once he got mine down, his overwhelming firepower started taking my hull down at a faster rate. I jumped out with 12% hull left. I probably could have taken him if I fought my ship, or maybe targeted sub-modules, but I just went head-to-head until it was clear I wasn't going to make it.

I've decided to give up on trading for now and concentrate on killing pirates.

Yep, must admit I'd forgot about doing the out of system jump escape.
I think I'd just gotten a bit overconfident with my Python's abilities to pretty much take on all comers.....

Nah, no point in reporting something what's been an intended feature always - high-waking has been present in the game virtually "forever" (from since early alphas).

I find it surprising that some people aren't aware of having high-wake escape as an option.

Wait, wait. I've never heard of this. So you're telling me, that instead of just hitting my supercruise key, if I select say..the next system over, and jump to that, I won't have any FrameShift chargeup delay due to mass lock?

Yep......
