Jesus H. Christ, just jump to solo and be done about it.
U know, RL happens sometimes and i also did leave everything behind me more than once because i had to go AFK. And if such situations do occur i couldnt care less if someone wants to dock on an outpost or not at that time. Because than i have other stuff to worry about. Otherwise i would have loged out.

Just jump into Solo, dock, return to Mobius
Edited: into something more useful

When this happen I just switch over to solo, dock go back into mobius.
Easy peasy, and if you log into group when docked at the same pad you shouldn't end up in the same instance has the afk'r.
If possible I would go into main menu or just hover outside the station if i needed to go Afk.
But I can understand that there are cases where you just have to get up an run.
Say you are minding the kids and they suddenly get scientifically curious to se how matches effects cat fur, or something, or just start choking on a piece of Lego.

I get it. RL does happen. The only issue is that this is a popular route...sometimes there is a few of us running it as a group. Just be mindful if you walk away. I often just log out. This is a big group and its great to see some of you.
I wish ED would do something about this....time out timer..something...what if someones kid got hurt or if your wife sent into labor. Since joining this group I have just seen it a lot and maybe people do not realize what walking away can do.
However if everyone wants me to play solo by myself I can..however the idea was to have us play in a world with other peeps.. All I am asking is to be aware...real life does happen...try to log out.

As with many things we can do more, I think perhaps the game could do better. For instance i thought at first that entering hangar would clear the pad for the next pilot. It obviously does not but I think it should. And it wouldn't be immersion breaking in my mind either, could throw in a 5 minute automatic entry to hangar as well and problem sorted.
If I was running an outpost route I would also try not to go afk docked, I would just float near the station inside fire zone, or exit to menu.

I think this explains what you (OP) may not have realised.
I usually 'play' that the station is full and I'll go somewhere else rather than wait around, to maintain my immersion in the game.
I find it's best if I don't get bothered about what others do. I can't know their circumstances.

Hello,
I always thought entering the hangar would clear the pad for someone else. So if I have to AFK, I would just enter the hangar. It doesn't? Then what's the point of entering a hangar?
So far I haven't gotten any complaints probably cause the routes I fly and the times I fly them at do not seem to be popular. So far I've only once seen a hollow contact on my radar.

I'd always assumed that the hangars were multiple storage bays beneath the landing platform. Working a bit like the elevators on an aircraft carrier.
If they don't work that way (and it appears they don't) then it's all just a bit pointless as well has being time wasting when docking and un-docking. I've always thought it strange that a spacecraft that can manouevre 360 degrees on all axes has to be physically turned round before it can take off....
I met another CMDR the other day, in a station. They didn't respond to a hail, so I assumed they were AFK. However, I couldn't see them on a landing pad in the direction indicated so they must have been in the hangar. I must admit that I've done this myself if I'm just taking a short break, it's less hassle than logging out and back in again.
