Elite: Dangerous PvE - Mobius

So I was just looking on the FD forums when I come across some inforamtion about a group of mercenaries who organise themselves on Reddit. Apparently they all came in to Kamahenue last night and attacked all commanders, innocent, pledged or not. I personally don't play in PP, I don't play in open for just this reason and now more than ever I am so grateful that this group exists. I was involved in a CG and saw some commanders, in much better ships than me. I don't get to play often so I am not that good, nor that rich in game, and am grateful that therefore belonging to this group isn't going to result in me loosing my ship, my nights work and my fun over some guys bullying tactics. I might be wrong and they are roleplaying but it does talk about in game credit changing hands and these guys advertise as mercenaries for higher. Not sure what I make of it, but it makes Elite PVE much more appealing.

Every time I get the urge to dip my toes back into open, and maybe try a little "even strength" PVP, I keep getting reminded about these asshats in wings that just like to blow people away for fun - or if they're too unskilled to shoot well, they just ram you to death. If you're not wanted, not carrying cargo, or not pledged to an opposing PP faction, then I don't see a justifiable reason for you to be murdered, and I'd really like to see these scumbags banned to their own server.

I was thinking about what I'd read on their website after I'd posted. It seemed to be offering rewards of 1 million credits for participating and 150 million fee. I've no idea how the person supposedly hiring them is paying this, but it all sounds rather dodgy, let alone totally against what things should be. This was an orchestrated attack, and anyone found in the way was fair game for them. But that isn't a fair game. Like you I hope this gets more than a raised eyebrow from FD, surely this is open abuse?

Open is really not as horrible as all the bad stories make it sound. It's not as quiet as Mobius is, but space is so big, most systems are still empty of players. Most players who would give you trouble are going to be found at major trade hubs, Powerplay faction HQs, and active CGs. ((Kamadhenu is Arissa's PP HQ)) Extra caution is needed in those areas, plus RESes and CZs.

Even-strength PVP is hard to find.

Perhaps that is just as well, but all the same knowing what and where to avoid makes playing the game in open more difficult, unless you are exploring. So I prefer the foreknowledge of playing PVE and that way I won't be someone else's notch on their flight stick toward Elite.

apparently 'arsehole' is a valid role in this game, it sounds like they are giving that a try and are having some success at it
