...perhaps currently the most "exciting" thing about the Powerplay update, for me, is the ability to see how close I am to becoming Deadly?
Seriously. Something in my brain tells me it should be anytime now, but I'm curious as to whether I'm way way off and am only deluding myself.

you are not alone, I've got beta access and was surprised i hadn't progressed further than the 9% into master i was.

I'm almost afraid to find out. I fear that I'm actually much further away than I currently think I am.

likewise. i remember seeing someone's stats on the FD forums for elite, and thinking i'm already way past those and it shouldn't be long now... and then i look at how many Victoria had to get to reach elite, and i'm only about 2/3 of the way there

Just as I look at a few folk that have already made Deadly, and I've surpassed them as well.
Very hard to gauge.

Same here, I have 2700 kills with a total profit of 58 million, still master though. Perhaps I'm misunderstanding how these things are calculated, but now I'm checking after every kill if that's the one that put me over the top into dangerous.

We found with Victoria that it depends on many things: the ship you fly, whether you "work" alone or in a wing, the ships you kill, their ranks...
So if you want to progress faster, favor conflict zones (fighters rank higher than pirates), use a small ship, and work alone.

That might explain a lot of things, Flip, I've been getting most of these kills with a fully kitted python, fighting novice to master anacondas. Although very profitable they probably don't do too much for my combat rating. I do work alone most of the time.

Thanks Flip, that is an interesting perspective to share, and an poignant one as well.
Perhaps I'll admit, that although group play is awesome, it really comes down to individual CMDR skill, regardless if that is combat, mining, trading, etc.
Glad I got a small stable of ships to experiment in....plus their re-buy is affordable!

i hope the Vulture counts as a 'small ship' - it's about all i use these days
