Asp for simultaneous exploring, trading, fighting?

I have been toying with this idea - has anybody tried trading, while also exploring when they find unexplored in-between systems, while also fighting interdictors, uss or res? I'm thinking an asp would be ideal and the while scheme could be less boring while also profitable :)

(Sorry if the thread didn't being here, I thought mixing in all professions is kinda ..well.. "general")

Yes you can but you will have to live with the compromises to the Asp. Mine is being used for the supplying CG. It is now multi purpose and only has a jump range of 13.81 unladen and 11.60 laden. With all the clutter on the boat at the moment would I take that into the Black, .. no. Would drop a lot of the A spec to D for weight and only take one laser for fun going out and back from the core.

It is very much each to their own. Once you get 300 LY out there is not going to be any interdictions or pirates. Never had the courage to do USS's or RES's out there. The scans of planets are good payers so would hate to lose that.

My advice try it.

I was thinking more along the lines of a trading-first ship, mixed with maybe advanced & detailed surface scanners plus one or two C2 weapons. I wouldn't mind shortening the jump distance a bit, exploring would be only for nearby unexplored systems.

(Or ...and this is my new favorite... Fight with dual mining lasers for a true multi purpose ship )

Then yes go with a Multi purpose Asp. It is what mine is at the moment and it is a fun ship. Certainly put the Advanced Discovery Scanner and details scanner on. Not sure about the mining laser never done that would have to make space for a refinery so something would have to come out for that.

When Power Play comes out with the drones the mining aspect of the game I will certainly have a look at.

As Jacob says it's a compromise. If you want to be combat and exploring ready you probably want shield cells and advanced scanners etc which take up compartments which could be used for trading. I travelled about 500ly out from the bubble with about a 20 ly jump range and was able to take down pirates and salvage with a moderate sized cargo hold. But if I was going on a longer trip I would drop all the weaponry, cargo holds etc and go for a 30ly+ range.

I'd agree with that... to be able to land at virtually any station (medium size pads), fight when or wherever you like, trade or explore gives you freedom. My current setup (T7 and Vulture) makes more money but it's a case of doing one thing then swapping ships to do something else.

I'm thinking no SCBs for more cargo. (Playing around in edshipyard atm...)

The Asp is more of an explorer but it has plenty of hardpoints and plenty of cargo space to serve as a multi-function ship and it isn't hideously expensive to get started with. That said don't take one to a warzone as they make very nice targets!
