Spectrum Elite owners...cast your mind back...

Postby Neillm » Thu Oct 02, 2014 5:43 pm

It's something that's bugged me for 30 years ( ) but I remember playing the Sectrum version for a bloody long time but never getting any missions in it.

Does anyone know if they were even in that version? And if not, why not? Err...that last bit isn't aimed at your not knowing, but at the missions or lack thereof! Right, I think that's clear enough.

As far as I remember, there were no missions in Speccy version. At least I never had any and never knew that there should be some. :)

My brain has aged so much since then that I really cannot remember.

Aye...amazed it's still something that I wonder about on occasion.

Neil: :D Don't worry, it seems that E:D B2 has a tons of missions all the time. Your 30-years-older-me can compensate it here until another Big bang ;)

I'm really baffled by this.

My mate played Elite on his VIC-20 (or C64 - can't swear which one - that'll be about 1986) but I always had Spectrums and could never get hold of it. I was told there was no Speccy release of Elite.

Maybe it came later? We are talking of the original, first version, aren't we?

edit: I read this in wiki:

The ZX Spectrum version was a best-seller in the Gallup charts[61] and was voted number 7 in the Your Sinclair Readers' Top 100 Games of All Time.

Must have come later. By the time I got back to Germany in December '86, I had other things on my mind than computers, so it probably got ported after that.

The Spectrum version was released in 1985. Right when I should have been revising for my O-levels. :-)

My mate had a Spectrum and I don't remember any missions on it. I had a BBC and had no missions as it was the tape version and the memory was maxed out. I don't remember disc drives for the Sinclair (please correct me if they did, I'd love to know what they looked like) but the Speccy did boast 48k as far I'm aware so maybe it could have handled missions although I do remember home computer adverts were a bit misleading then about available RAM and actual program usable RAM (whatever the word was for that).
