Prettymuch.
Especially people without a proper HOTAS will know this all to well.

Pretty much the same thing for me as well. Except that I accidentally shot my weapons and the station blew me up iirc.

Rofl...I've been hearing all sorts of things about people having trouble docking, but...I sort of...haven't ever had a problem. Sometimes I'll descend a little too fast and bump the landing pad a bit, or descend a little too early and knock against the...erm...shield...barrier...thingy that sticks up at an angle from the arse end (when you're landing) of the pad, but I've never taken any damage or anything. I like docking, I find it fun :).

Flying a glass shoebox (T6 without shields), then figuring "Lets try autodocking, that should be a safe bet"... never again.

Scooping fuel is very much like making love to a beautiful woman. First check the target is hot enough,
then approach slowly. Once close enough, pull out your scoop and fill her up. After you're done just
gently pull away, turn around and leave.

Haha!
Quite a similar experience than I had on my first attempts landing the training Sidewinder ;)
I did try that though with a keyboard and a M$ Sidewinder Precision 2 flight stick but nevertheless, I remember having wished my Sidey would had been as stable as the Vogons' Yellow Brick like vessels in the notorius Hitchhikers Guide To Galaxy...

42, Fellow Commanders,

My first attempt at docking didn't involve asking permission first. The second attempt was just like the op. Probably the third as well. I still scare myself sometimes coming in at speed and gliding to a halt right on target. Docking is still one of the best things about E : D.
