Question about mining cargo space

Postby Saint Syd » Tue May 26, 2020 12:30 pm

Hey all :)

So I took out my Cutter with 512t of cargo space and filled her up, to my surprise when I went to sell, I realized the "bulk selling penalty" really lowered my profit margin.

So I read up on the thing about the demand for the given mineral should be 10x your cargo space, for you to get full or near full price.

Now finding a station that has 10x demand for 512t can be quite tricky, so my question to you fellow "big haul" miners;

Would it be better to just remove one of the 8E cargo racks and just mine 256t (which would be quicker) and just to multiple runs? What do you do? It would be easier to find a demand rate near 256t rather than 512t

Sincerely
Cmdr Saint Syd

I "only" have 350 cargo in a Conda, and I try to mine when Inara say that high demand station give good prices.
By high demand I look for at least 3000- 3500. Good prices > 1,3, some times they fall a littlebit.
Good evenings tends to be late, with 2 trips and once 3 trips.

I would change that 8-cargo to an additional collecter and fit one more mining laser for faster trips.

Thank you for the response, Jalla :)

I took your advice, and running 256t, 9 collectors and 4 lasers :)

I only ever mined in a python with around 138t space: quicker runs, more responsive turnaround, better at defending itself against pirates and better prices.

I see no point in mining more than a couple of hundred tons, and rather load up on more limpets.

Rule 1: Pillage. Then burn.
Rule 2: No such thing as overkill, as long as there are reloads.
