Finally Back

Postby Astro Monkey » Thu Jul 13, 2017 4:52 am

Made it back to the bubble after a long trip out to Sag A*, made way more cash than I thought I would, 260mil, lol...

Selling data all over the bubble, I managed to get allied with a ton of minor factions, fed, emp, alliance, indys, got a handful of permits, ranked up and unlocked some engineers.....Now, what to do next? Think I'm going to have to grind out that last 25% for elite explorer, shouldn't take long, then, maybe buy a Python or a combat ship like FDL, and find a place in the bubble to call home for a while :)

Impressive!
Good hint to sell the data to different factions.
Might be obvious but I wasn't aware of it.

How long have you been traveling?
Oh, I see. It states about 1 day and 9 hours additional playtime.

Yeah it definitely took awhile to sell all the data, couple days....Was nervous at first flying around with all the data, didn't want to get shot down and lose all of it, but after a couple interdictions I got the feel for it, and my worries went away. For some reason I remember it being harder to evade interdictions, maybe flying a DBX made it easier, but out of only maybe 7 or 8 interdictions I failed one on purpose and just boosted away, the others I just played the blue circle mini game and won every time.....Docking was the hardest part to relearn, it was ugly haha....

First I figured i should unlock Alioth and Sirius, then I wanted to grab those relics for elvira martuuk, brought those over, and used data to level her up to grade 5, still had data left, so I googled for people's favorite empire systems, bounced around getting allied with systems around Cubeo, Cemiess, Wu Guinagi, and Cartu...got allied with empire, still had data to sell. Noticed Azrael was nearby, so got Allied with Order of Mobius :)

Next i googled some federations spots, got allied with systems around Lembava, Tun, Rhea, and a few spots around Sol (still have to rank up to unlock Sol), got allied with fed, so figured I should hit up alliance next....was only able to get allied with the factions in Alioth and a few systems around there before running out of data

Was kinda cool hitting all those spots in the bubble, now I have a much better understanding of where everything is, Think I'm going to do the bubble ELW/TFC tour for that last 25% for elite then try out some other stuff :)

Winning the interdiction mini-game against NPC was made much easier recently (with 2.2 or 2.3), but FDev already made noises about "a balance pass", so enjoy it while it lasts. However, as long as you are not carrying any cargo, it does not matter if the pirates catch you: They will scan you, make a one-liner, and fly away.

I have traded the exploration data from my BP trip for faction and engineer favour as well, which was kind of nerve-wracking since I had to advance to dangerous in combat and assemble 1 million in combat bonds for Juri Ishmanek (this was reduced to 100.000 after I was done, thank you, Murphy) while carrying all that data.

Some sales tips for your next batch of data:
  • The Party of Yoru controls access to engineer Zacariah Nemo.
  • The Eurybia Blue Mafia controls access to engineer Liz Ryder.
  • In addition to Elvira Martuuk, the following engineers can be levelled up with exploration data: Felicity Farseer, Selene Jean, Professor Palin, Lori Jameson, Ram Tah, and The Sarge.
  • There is a large number of minor factions that will give out permits for locked systems if you are allied with them. See this FD Forum thread for an overview. Most of these permits are not that interesting, but as I had the data, why not get a cherry on top...

When I did this in 2.2, it took about 12 million in exploration data to become allied with a faction. Getting to level 5 after unlocking an engineer takes either 10 million or 15 million, depending on the engineer. Unfortunately, I did not make notes which engineer fell into which group.

I made sure to hit those factions that led to engineers later and a few others, still have to deliver all the stuff those engineers want, that might be the next plan.....I put some time in the past couple days, and was able to get that final 25%! And saved enough data to get allied with the controlling faction of the Founder's World station :) Elite Explorer!!!

I found a Guide "How to Use Exploration Data for Engineers - A Guide for the Returning Explorer" on the frontier forum:
https://forums.frontier.co.uk/showthrea ... g-Explorer

Are the safety advices still up to date?
I'm just about to return to the bubble and felt like running without cargo would keep me 100% safe.
Even I get interdicted (and wouldn't manage to get away), I would get a one-liner after getting scanned and left alone. No true?

The guide states several safety instructions:
- Return via a “Safe Harbour”
- NPC spawns depend on your ship size
- Speed is still safety
- Fit point defense
- Fit a good shield
- NPC spawn also depends on cargo - check
- Call for an escort

See my earlier post in this thread about interdictions and cargo. The MA for Farseer is likely to draw attention, so I definitely recommend having a mate meet you at her base with the MA. Same for the Soonthil relics for Martuuk.

However, this seems to rather random, we recently escorted an explorer coming home from Beagle Point with 115 tons of rare alcohols through the Maia system, which is an anarchy. Number of interdiction attempts: 0.

From your signature, you are not doing power play, so that is one additional risk out of the way.

As far as missiles go, I am underwhelmed by the performance of point defence, so I would also/rather fit a chaff launcher.

One point I am missing in the tips: go to advanced maintenance and repair your ship's integrity. This is not done by 'repair all', and 0% integrity means about 30% less hull strength.

Thanks again, Comet! :)

So it's due to the fact that the engineers want rares that I might get interdicted because I have cargo on board.

As long as I don't carry anything, I'll be safe.

Well, you can get interdicted even without cargo on board, but it is rare. It finally happened to me yesterday while I was flying around with no cargo and no missions. For science, I submitted and let the NPC scan me. Result: "A wasted effort. There's no cargo here." and "You're really not worth my time. Leave. Now!"

So this NPC behaviour is still working as intended in 2.3.11.
