Remote Outposts

Postby Lanceor » Tue Apr 25, 2017 6:40 am

I was thinking of kitting out an Anaconda for exploration, but one thing that concerns me - are there any outposts or other small/medium landing pads well outside the bubble that I may want to land at?

The only landing options that are somewhat far from the bubble are the refuelling stations and the Colonia area. Some of the space stations in Colonia only have medium pads, but there are several stations and lots of planetary bases with large pads. The refuelling stations are also planetary ports with large pads.

The various asteroid bases found so far all have large pads, but they are not really "far, far away", their maximum distance from Sol is about 7500 LY.

There are no landing pads beyond The Line or even north of Sag A* (yet?)

I was considering the same thing with a Python. But that's a medium class ship isn't it?

Yes, the Python is a medium pad ship, but asteroid bases have all kinds of pads:

This was taken in the Flaming Star Logistics Centre and shows some small, medium, and large pads.

And just as I type this, the 37th of the 32 asteroid bases has been found, in Colonia.

Thanks for the confirmation that the large pad requirement will generally not be a problem. :)

With the 2.3 patch, the Anaconda, Asp and DBX are closely matched for exploration ability with each having different pros and cons. One of the Anaconda's disadvantages is a lot smaller now.

And yep, Python only requires a medium pad and can land at any outpost - this is one of the things that makes it probably the best multi-role ship in the game. :)

If I didnt love the DBX so much, Id consider a Python.
Then there is jump range....

40ly is pretty much good enough to get you wherever.

Honey,
you call 40 ly jumps bare minimum... good for you.. I will take my trusty T6 that goes only 28.6 ly and get all those juicy planets, black holes, neutron stars, metal rich planets, high metal content planets that you go zooming by. true, you will get there faster than me but that is not the purpose of exploration....
tootles for now....

I agree, I use a 25-31LY jumprange on my anaconda (carrying quite a lot of heavy stuff like Cargo, SRV's and fighters). I made 4 million yesterday from scanning 4 systems.
