As discussed further in this thread, I have come up with a proposed route that is nothing like the Distant Worlds Expedition. I have included the information below as it was posted later in another post. I have also removed the DWE Tour information.

========================
NOTE: LAUNCH DATE HAS BEEN SET AS AUGUST 13th!

SEE THIS POST FOR MORE INFO ON THE KICKOFF TIMES AND DETAILS!

Although I am still working on the itinerary, I wanted to present my idea with a current list.

I am calling this the Zoological Nebula Tour.

Here are the Details.

And here is a more direct list of the destinations (Work In Progress for Coordinates and the target System).

I would love some feedback on the proposed route, and the stages. I will be adding map coordinates for all the stops as well as a Target System to aim for in each Nebula.

For those that don't know about the coordinates:

Ship Builds

Many will think Asp Explorer or Anaconda when you think Exploring, but there are a lot of choices out there. Here are a bunch to consider. All have shields, an SRV, Fuel Scoop, and required scanners, but no weapons. I did not include the small ships such as a Sidewinder or Eagle because they cannot comfortably carry a Buggy, but don't exclude them from your list if driving an SRV on the Planet is not your idea of fun, or you don't have Horizons.

Communications.

Having good communications when it comes to keeping things organized are key, especially if we are trying to get a lot of Cmdrs. into one instance for meetups. We know that in game voice is crappy at best, and it is hard to manage groups that are not all in the same instance.

We could use the Mobius Teamspeak as it is readily available, or we could use a Discord server which I can setup in Minutes.

The discord server has the advantage of being able to be used on other devices for free other than your PC. They have android and IOS apps, Mac/PC, and are easier to use for typed communications for those who don't want to use voice. It also runs in a Browser and the Desktop versions have an overlay so you can see in game when people are sending text chats, and who is speaking.

The Teamspeak server is already working well and provides the same functionality but not the same bells and whistles. It is not available for free on iOS and Android.

I have started a Strawpoll to get an idea on how the group feels about which to use.
Please vote here: http://www.strawpoll.me/10098561

The votes have been tallied, and it seems that Discord is the Favourite a hair. so I set up a server, and here is the Invite link: https://discord.gg/0zgLTUjur07RLjUQ

I will be setting up separate channels later today. I imagine it will not see much use until we closer to a date, but it is there non the less and please feel free to use it as it is an open server. This does not mean you can't use the TeamSpeak server, just that we will be officially using the discord server.

Tools to aid in your exploring.

Here is a list of a few tools that you may want to consider using during your exploration. If more are suggested, I will add them as they are brought up.

Here is a fully encompassing tutorial for exploration A-team/old fart style.

1.
Press jump.
2.
Throttle to zero.
3.
Scoop fuel and honk.
Repeat.

For detail scans, select the unexplored object on the navigation panel.
Point at it.
If it doesn't scan fly closer.
REPEAT.

I wrote it for the noobs so I figured I would include it.

Or I would end up being sued by some shitheel who never left robigo dock, and bought a conda for exploration ;)

I like the idea of using Discord due to it's extra functionality.

On the subject of ship builds, something that sprang to mind this morning and in keeping with the theme of 'Halfassed', how about a standard ship build of something unusual, say everyone has to go in a Hauler?

Wow, what's that - 5 weeks to go 30,000LY? That's less than 1/2 hour a day travel time plus exploring, over a route that has already been picked over by over 1000 commanders. After spending all that time on the DWE, I don't think I could take another slow paced expedition like that again. But I understand not everybody would be able to keep a faster pace.
