When I was trading commodities in a loop I tried to automate as much as possible.
It's not too hard to automate selecting the next hop on a route, selecting the station within a system and requesting docking. about the only things you have to do manually were pointing the ship in the right direction, setting the throttle to 75% and dropping out of supercruise at the right time.

I use VA only for requesting docking and deploying landing gear. I rarely use my other commands as its just quicker to press a button.
