Elite: Dangerous PvE - Mobius

Hi,

I'm a 54 y/o programmer, recently retired (involuntarily). I may un-retire one day, but I am finding that gaming all day is far more enjoyable than work was.

I play all kinds of games - RPG, puzzle, simulation, and even anime VN (just finished the zero escape series, which was great).
Most of my time is spent in XPlane.

I am new-ish to Elite, and still trying to figure out what to do that isn't repetitive. I'm looking for something more involved than the missions.
I find the idea of a PVE environment much more appealing than solo or PVP.
I am also trying out EVE (where I am a total carebear).
In both EVE and Elite I am looking for some kind of longer term goals and not just single missions hauling cargo or mining.
