CMDRS LOG #0001: Introductions

Postby Jaxx White Oak » Sat Jan 14, 2017 3:25 am

Hey all. CMDR Jaxx White Oak checking in.

I'm new to Elite: Dangerous; I was gifted it on Steam by a good friend. I'm about 6 hours in according to Steam, and having fun so far! I've never done forums for a game that wasn't a browser based political nation sim, so this should be an interesting experience. Otherwise I'm very familiar with game forums. It's been a few months since I've been active on a game forum, so I'm looking forward to the community. Anyone still use IRC?

Truthfully I'm new to flight simulator type games in general. The last time I tried to fly something in-game was probably Battlefield 3 or 4... I promptly nosedived into the ground and never got in one again. With no ground to fall into, practicing flying in ED has been much more satisfying lol. I won't lie though; I did get a docking computer as soon as I could afford it. I HATE docking. :|

So far my interests seem to be leaning towards explorer/courier/cargo hauler. I don't care as much about getting super rich. I just want to make enough to upgrade my ship, get a newer/bigger one (I'm still in the Sidewinder of course), and see the galaxy. It was amazing to zoom out on the galaxy map to see how small the currently explored universe is IG. And after seeing the recent video of the first alien encounter, I'd love to find more. :D

Anywho, that pretty much does it. Hello again!

Greetings and welcome to Mobius, Commander Jaxx White Oak. Glad you and your Sidey found our group. :)

Docking can certainly be tricky at first (like a *LOT* of things in E-D). You'll get the hang of it. I'd recommend trying to improve your docking skills rather than taking up a valuable slot for a docking computer on smaller ships. Just my $0.02 worth.

Please feel free to add your name to one of our 'In game friends lists'

In game friends list for PC
Xbox EU and Xbox US

and check out our TeamSpeak servers or Discord (voice and text chat) servers to easily chat with, and possibly wing up with other commanders.

Also, make sure to check the Policy page if you haven't already Image.

On top of all of that, we also have a Facebook group and Twitter feed.

There is a lot of great info on the message board, and we have compiled a long list of Tips and Tricks to help new players acclimatize to the game while having fun.

Finally, if you are interested in being involved, go here to see information about our player group faction, the Order of Mobius (based at Rafferty's Mobius station in the Azrael system). We have our own Order of Mobius Twitter feed.

Thanks very much. I stored my docking comp, reinstalled my cargo rack. Ugh, docking.

The problem I'm running into, now 13 hours in, is that I'm only finding missions that I'm "technically" qualified to run, but because I'm in a Sidewinder they're too far out of range for me to route to. I'm starting to feel boxed in to where I'm at. :( My choices of profitable missions seems to be narrowing quickly.

Dang. The game can be rough in the early stages, that's for sure. Do you have enough cash to buy at least a D rated Frame Shift Drive? If so, that will improve your jump range considerable, and you'll be able to reach more systems.

I'm going to add you to my in-game friends list, and keep an eye out for you. If our paths cross in-game I'll see what I can do to help you get a little cash so you can improve your Sidie's outfitting.

I'll check the outfitting options next time I log on and see what I can afford. I was trying to hold off upgrading much else on my Sidewinder till I could afford a Cobra, but I guess that doesn't matter if I can't do any missions to make the money I need in the first place, right?

And thanks, I appreciate that a lot. :D
