I'm another one who played the original back when it was released. First on a friend's Acorn Electron and then on my own Speccy, complete with eye mangling lenslok.
This group is absolutely ideal for me because I've never been a huge fan of PvP and much prefer to play cooperatively with a group of good friends or, hell, even strangers.
Various medical reasons have kept me from the game as much as I'd like but, hopefully, these are resolved now so let the fun begin!
