Elite: Dangerous PvE - Mobius

Hey folks,

Just found out about your group from reddit.

Name's Rachael IG PhysicsOrFiction (didn't realise spaces were allowed XD ). Glad to find you guys exist. I love a bit of PvP but most of what this game is to me is a relaxing sim to play with in the evenings back from work so, unless I'm spoiling for a fight, you'll mostly find me mining, trading and exploring. I enjoy some light RP, a friendly chat and drink flying on a Friday.

At least until powerplay comes out! Then it's warring for the glorious empire all the way.

I have always been a bit curious as to the presence of an RP community in Elite....*ponder*

Well the game has a couple of things going for it

Firstly it's a blank slate. The mechanics are diverse enough that you can project your own play style on it and failure is so gentle that optimum play isn't necessary. The narrative is also very shallow allowing "head cannon" to be introduced.

It's very immersive. For RP to be enjoyable you need to be able to visualise yourself in the world. You can't really RP COD because the characters are so rigid there is no room to be anyone other than whatever violent psychopath you're supposed to be playing in a scene.

There is a dearth of sci-fi RP. Fantasy side we have so much that any new fantasy game wont attract that many. Elite is breaking so much new ground all these people daydreaming about being a space X for some value of X are flocking to it.

It's huge. Ever tried RPing in WOW or something? Some fool will start jacking up your style (Looking at you people that jump up and down in front of the king/lord/dark wizard etc). In elite there is so much room that while player interaction is obtainable it's not forced on you. This allows all sorts of roles to be adopted.
