Elite: Dangerous PvE - Mobius

Hey guys. I'm new to mining (just made two runs so far) and want to give the CG a go.

From the on-line resources that I've been able to find, it looks like the nearest systems with pristine metallic rings are 120-150ly away from HIP 8396.

Are you guys finding any place closer to mine Osmium?

Sorry I cant help but would also like to know if someone has some good locations.. Im currently hitting the Station CGs atm and will probably jump the mining CG on the last day like I did with the last mining CG.

Some solid info would be good to jump straight into with no fuss.

I might be mistanken but I think osmium is a bit more common than the P's.
So you could have luck outside of pristine metallic rings.

Don't bother with Metallic rings. Osmium can be quite readily found in Metal Rich rings too, and the inner ring of the very planet Stepping Stone orbits is pristine Metal Rich. So just mine that! I pulled 99t out of a cargo hold of 130t on the last run.

As I mentioned, I'm new to mining and have only worked a couple of pristine metallic rings so far.... so I didn't know that Osmium can be found in metal rich as well. I appreciate the tip!

I dropped off my first load with 126 tons of Osmium (and about $1.6mil in P rocks that I couldn't resist along the way) and that put me in the top 33%. Wow.... apparently there are not too many participants yet. Hopefully more miners will show up this weekend.

I've only done combat CG's in the past, so this feels like it will be a nice relaxing, low intensity CG which is perfect for me right now.

It think its pretty much all hands on deck with the station Computer Components CG. Since it will dictate the services the station will have everyone clammering to get that CG maxed out. Afterwards, i'll be heading for some roid raiding!

For those that want to make some cash by getting some P rocks while mining Osmium for the CG, this thread on Reddit says that these systems have pristine metallic rings and are close by:

HIP 5440 - 2nd, 3rd, 7th planets (inner rings), 48 ly from HIP 8396
HIP 4318 - 1st planet (inner ring), 44ly from HIP 8396

I got a few BB missions for P rocks at Stepping Stone Base for some extra $$ as well.

Smart move. Also, to the post just above yours: Stepping Stone's facilities are also at stake. The more we mine, the more viable Stepping Stone becomes. I'd love to get it at least to Shipyard status. I made my home in Te Kaha for quite some time and I can tell you - it's lucrative out there.

Made a few runs with Osmium today. I worked the metallic rings at HIP 5440 and HIP 4318. I like 4318, as it's pretty bright there. Helpful for the old guy that can't see.

This screenshot was my fourth run. I think it was pretty efficient use of cargo space, for a mining rookie. With 348 tons contributed, I'm in the top 5% so far.

The CG is just a tick from hitting tier one.

I dont see this CG getting anywhere near completed.
