Surface salvage w/o SRV

I was doing Bounty Hunt mission that led me to a planet. By coincidence different surface salvage mission happen to be here, so I went to marker on my fighter FDL. Surprisingly I managed to collect several canisters, so I repeated this again in my DBX, filming the process.
This works best on a plain surface with smaller ship. Rough terrain, big ships -> failure.
Can't use collector limpets - it is being destroyed when hits surface (always).
Can't do Datapoint Scan missions - datapoint doesn't raise at all.
