Isn't this rather basic?
After 2.1.05
Find a grade 1 mod using 1 iron or something extremely common and start spamming the roll .
Sure you will need more rolls per level after a while like always.
You don't even have to apply the mod just keep rolling new ones.
Basic leveling guide done.

Agreed. However I did this from a perspective that I had, which was you needed to level up by completing each level as they come. So if I had this perspective I am sure others may have as well. This guide says everything you are saying but tells you why.

Unfortunately, I stopped playing right when Engineers dropped and I'm now playing catch-up. Could you explain what you mean when you say spamming the roll? I understand it's a newb question, but please, be kind and humor me...

He means, get the single material that is needed for level 1 roll (this is so common that you can get tons of it easily) and roll grade 1 upgrades until you unlock grade 5.

Grade 5 might take a few hundred, but lvl 3 can be done in under 50.
