I managed to capture a close up shot a couple of weeks back myself with a bit of lucky timing.

That's pretty cool too! I love to see the little intricacies of the ships' functions like that. Heat radiators opening and glowing when they get hot, landing gear deploying, and watching gimballed weapons in action is especially awesome, imo. =D Probably one of my favorites is how the DBX (And the DBS too, I would assume, though I've never flown that one myself so I don't know) wings rotate and fold when the landing gear is deployed, which you should definitely check out on youtube or in-game if you haven't seen it from an external view before. 
But yeah, I don't think I've ever seen the collectors actually docking with a cargo bay up close like that. Neat. =)
