Situational Awareness

Postby Black Rose » Wed Jan 20, 2016 1:55 pm

I suppose this this is the right thread it is, after all, a screen shot. Although its not that pretty :P

I happen to have my camera on "free form" ( press the middle mouse button for new pilots ) and I looked down while docking. I use this all the time now when I dock and it helps me see exactly where I am on the pad and its allot more fun.

I commented to a friend recently that the name of the game should be called Elite: Docking because that's what I am doing most of the time

If you like looking around, and who doesn't, you should look into head tracking. ;)
It's time to give this another go.

I like looking around but not only is that thing expensive and with my technical luck won't work but it will be disorienting for me.

It's 'cheap' compared to the other headtrackers - but the prize scared me off for some time too. It is really worth its money, plug and play and tripples your situational awareness and fun. Maybe have a look at brumster100 's videos on youtube.

Am I right in thinking that, as you turn your head, the view changes but you have to keep your eyes on the screen?
I use varifocals so straight ahead is my only option.
Any other old farts players with a wide experience of life with the same problem?

I can only speak about the TrackIR but, a tiny movement is exaggerated in game - and depending on your vision you could make that exaggeration even more so, you would get used to the amount of movement needed to bring your side panels up etc

With me, and I am not that old, I lose track of things of their motion is too exaggerated. Like if someone flips a coin, I see it go up and if I try to follow the motion is vanishes from my sight and then I'll see it fall. Any sudden motion that I try to track with my eyes is lost to me. So something like the tracker would make me nauseous :(
