How to push an Annie through the mail slot

Well ... any suggestions, for undocking? I tend to dent my shields quite a bit while leaving (either the roof or the nose hit something). Course its a matter of training, but maybe there are some helpful hints ...

I used to prang the slot all the time when I first got my Conda. You have to be bold! The slower you go, more chance of hitting the slot. Go at about 70-80 speed. Landing gear up. Actively steer. Aim high. Full pips to shields. If you have half decent shields it really doesn't matter too much if you hit anything.

Don't be afraid to make your eyes level with the top of the mail slot. You will think you are going to chop the top half of your head off but in the game the top half of your head is not there and the bridge of the Annie is at the back top of the ship.

Trick is to aim really high. And I mean REALLY high.
Remember the cockpit is at the very top so if you feel like ducking when you approach it you are about right ;)

Don't feel bad about banging around a bit.
There was a reason why my first trade build conda had class 5 shield generator and a full stack of shield boosters :P

There's a bug. I reported it back in something like 1.4 beta that the 'conda is magnetically attracted to the top of the slot but only on the way out. If you drive straight it goes up. So you have to aim high and then at the end aim/thrust down as you go through.

Coming in is much much easier as the magnets are switched off that way round! :)

That's cause coming in you instinctively correct for the slots rotation and then rotational correction kicks in.

Going out you can easily feel the slot moves (cause it does) when rotational correction disengages.

Going FA off through the slot will actually leave you spinning in space same as the station and you shouldn't have this issue.

Personally I often just line up to the slot and go out at full boost so don't have this issue ;)
Obviously not in busy instances of course...

when you leave line up the centre line of your fire group with the top of the lighted strip and you'll get out even with your landing gear down. if you don't feel the need to duck as you exit, chances are you are too low and will catch the bottom of your ship.

I only recently learned that ships auto-thrust in the mail slot to a certain degree, so if you are going fast enough (>70 m/s or something along those lines) it's quite easy. If you are going too slow you will get into trouble since you actually have no or at least less control over your thrusters.

With 1309MJ shield strength, it will go throught eventually...

It was bit tricky at first, but it will get easier over time. Like they already said, aim high when going through slot.

Aim high, don't go slow (at least 60), approach slot straight on, all pips to shields, actively steer the ship.

I used to practice this over and over - if you get stuck in the slot for whatever reason, exit to main menu - this is your get out of jail free card. In the end I found I perfected the art when I simply didn't care any more and just charged out.
